It’s hard work! Oh my word! I had my first full day of actual hardcore firefighter drills. Basically, I crawled around on my hands and knee wearing full bunker gear and S.C.B.A. (self-contained breathing abaratus) for hours. We crawled through mazes, first as a team of four and then all 22 of us. It was utter chaos!

I had fun, though. I\’m just not in good enough shape. I must work out a lot more. I think this is all proving to me that I’m interested in academic paramedics, and not so much in physical firefighting!

gymI passed my physical for the fire department. Going to Gold’s Gym has helped. Jessica’s planning on dropping Curves for Women in favor of Gold’s. I’m sure part of the motivation is to be with me and part is for for the better equipment they have there. Really, though, it must be for their cable TV, which will enable her to watch “Everybody Love’s Raymond” again! We’re both really tan (and fatter) after our trip to Hawaii. Dr. P. Ambrose certified that I am fit to use a respirator and fine to be a volunteer fire fighter. The exam was very thorough, even including a “turn and cough”. I had fasted for 24 hours beforehand (I only needed to do 12!) and so was very cranky, but am much better now. Standing around in your underwear and getting examined by so many people is a good motivator to go to the gym! Hopefully all this fitness with help us burn off the fat we managed to find in Hawaii!
